Niche team sports – Gaelic football

Team games are very popular. Many of them, such as basketball, volleyball and handball, belong to the group of the so-called contact sports. As a result, players are more likely to suffer from various types of injuries. One of the niche, but well-liked sports in this category is Gaelic football. It combines elements of several disciplines. Check what is worth knowing about Irish football and how to properly prepare for the match.

Rules of Gaelic football

In Ireland, this sport is called Peil Ghaelach. It is included in the group of national sports, and the Irish love to watch teams struggle on the pitch. Gaelic football is a very daring combination of soccer, rugby, volleyball and basketball. Teams consist of 15 players, whose task is to score a goal by potting their hand or kicking the ball into the goal. Additional points can be obtained by throwing a 65 cm ball over the crossbar, which is 2.5 m above the goal. Although at first glance this type of football is most reminiscent of rugby, fans who know the rules know that they were taken from well-known team games.
In Poland, since 2009, you can also train Gaelic football in one of the Warsaw clubs.
