RULES CONCERNING COURT KIT – VOLLEYBALL

We will follow and present the rules that players must meet in order to be admitted to the game by the competition commissioner. Today we will analyze the rules for volleyball players.

What can a player wear under his match outfit? What type of clothing is allowed and what color? What shouldn’t he play in?

As in the article about basketball players and handball players, we will first deal with the thermo-active clothing used by volleyball players.
The latest FIVB regulations, updated in January 2021, allow players to wear thermo-active tights of the same color that is dominant in the match kit. An alternative to this is also to use white, black or “neutral” colour tights, but only if all players are wearing the same color.
Similar regulations apply to knee pads and elbow pads. Provided that their elements are not plastic or metal.
In the case of thermo-active shirts, the world federation has established that the jersey may protrude beyond the match uniform. Only those that meet the same criteria as the above-mentioned tights will be allowed.

The exception is the uniform of a “libero” player whose match uniform must be of a different color than that of the other players, provided that it must be made in the same pattern. Libero can also choose a different color of tights, knee pads, elbow pads or a thermo-active shirt. The principle of selecting the colors is similar to that of other players.
Both in the case of the lower and upper part of thermoactive clothing, it is not allowed to place any advertisements or patches on them.

In basketball or handball, i.e. in contact sports, the rules governing a player’s clothing and equipment are more restrictive than in volleyball. And although it is forbidden to wear items that may cause an injury or give the player an artificial advantage, the world volleyball federation has not mentioned what these items may be. The commissioner decides about their admission to the game at the pre-match briefing.
A volleyball player is therefore allowed to play with glasses. One can also wear chains and earrings.
Interestingly, the commissioner may even allow a barefoot player to play, but with the limitation that there will be no more than one such player. The rest must wear flexible and soft shoes with a rubber sole. It is forbidden to play in shoes with heels.

Socks, as well as clothing, pads or welts, should be of the same color for all players. Calf compression cuffs may protrude above the sock and do not have to be the same color.
It is allowed to play with protectors on both ankles and wrists (also included are stabilizing straps; they must meet the above criteria). The color of the stabilizers must be the same as the color of the thermo active clothing.
